Projet d'aéroport du Grand Ouest - Notre-Dame-des-Landes
A project becomes reality
The building of an airport on the site of Notre-Dame-des-Landes has been in the pipe-line for more than 30 years. The public consultation organised in 2003 opened the study phase. The public enquiry ran from the 18 October to 30 November 2006 and led to a declaration of public utility on the 9 February 2008. This was the key date which began the operational phase of the project. The opening is planned for early 2015.

The decree instituting the right to relinquish

The right to relinquish is a new measure deriving from the law of the 27 of February 2002 concerning local democracy. This right was implemented for the first time as part of the Grand Ouest airport project at Notre-Dame des Landes and means that those that live closest to the site can give the State notice that they wish to have their home purchased.

The decree, published in the Official Journal of the 20 January 2007, fixed the date on which the right would come into force and designated its scope.
